In Greek mythology, amethyst is associated with Dionysus, the god of wine. The story goes that a maiden named Amethyst rejected the god’s advances, and in punishment, he turned her into a stone statue. To show his remorse, Dionysus transformed her into a beautiful amethyst, which thus came to symbolize resistance to temptation and clarity.
